Position Overview

The Director of Technology at Perigon Wealth Management will be responsible for the firm’s core technology, including setting and implementing the tech strategy and priorities and managing third-party vendor relationships. The Director will ensure the adoption of systems and best practices across the organization and will implement firm resources to help all teams best leverage Perigon’s capabilities. The Director will collaborate closely across the executive leadership team. They will develop a deep understanding of how Perigon is structured today and provide feedback to leverage technology to create efficiencies and growth. This position reports to the Chief Investment Officer.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

Technology Strategy Development:

  • Collaborate with CIO to develop technology strategy and priorities that are approved by the executive team to ensure they meet business requirements and align with broader strategic goals and objectives.
  • Deploy AI forward solutions with both existing tools and leverage new tools /technology to drive productivity of users and potential business opportunities.
  • Drive innovation by researching new products and features to expand functionality, primarily within the current tech stack, proposing consolidation where appropriate.
  • Streamline and integrate core tech stack.
  • Develop ongoing project plan to address and implement strategic technology priorities.

Team Leadership:

  • Lead, mentor, and scale a growing technology team, fostering a culture of innovation, security, and accountability.

Technology Infrastructure:

  • Oversee Windows and Mac hardware procurement and hardware management across all employees and offices.
  • Collaborate with third-party IT vendors to outsource services when necessary.
  • Trouble shoot, resolve, and communicate issues related to the IT environment (hardware, software, network, internet, AVI, etc.) in a timely manner.
  • Provide internal IT and technical support for computers, networks, operating systems and applications, patch management, and data security best practices.
  • Oversee the management, maintenance, and strategic enhancement of our core tech stack including the portfolio management system (Orion), CRM (Salesforce), internal messaging system (Slack) and document management system (Box).
  • Ensure seamless and secure integration between all mission-critical systems, including financial planning software (e.g., MoneyGuidePro, eMoney Advisor), to create unified data workflows and superior advisor/client experiences.

Vendor Management:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Perigon technology vendors and service providers.
  • Develop engagement strategy to include ongoing communication and ongoing contract management and negotiation.
  • Ensure the efficient, secure, and scalable implementation of all relevant roadmap items.
  • Lead evaluation and RFP process for potential new vendors. Collaborate with CFO and the Executive team to select vendors that align with the firm’s strategic goals.

Team Technology Education & Adoption:

  • Educate and train company on available technology and tools.
  • Measure and report to executive committee on adoption rate of core tech stack.

Technology Management of Acquisitions:

  • Collaborate with the Director of Transitions to ensure effective technology transition (hardware and software) for newly acquired firms.
  • Support technology integration to core tech stack for newly acquired teams.

Budgeting and Resource Management:

  • In collaboration with the CFO, manage the annual technology budget, ensuring efficient use of resources.
  • Ensure that the Technology department is properly staffed to succeed in executing on the technology roadmap, as well as to meet the daily demands of the business.

Risk Management:

  • Develop and implement systems that provide high cyber security safeguards to minimize Perigon’s exposure to risk.
  • Work with CCO to update and maintain cybersecurity policies and procedures, execute cyber-related initiatives, and support Perigon cyber program as a whole.
  • Maintain awareness of new cyber threats, vulnerabilities, and technologies to keep the organization secure, working with third-party partners to support secure environment.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Cross-functional collaboration across all teams to gather feedback, understand technology needs, and implement quick wins and strategic priorities to address pain points and create efficiencies.
  • Communicate Perigon’s technology strategy to stakeholders, team, and technology vendors and partners.

Experience and Expertise:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in leading technology department for a firm ideally in the financial services or Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) space.
  • Experience successfully leading and deploying AI as a solution within existing software tools.
  • Strong technical background with an understanding of software architecture, data management and modern security practices.
  • Excellent project management, budgeting, and team leadership abilities.
  • Strong skills in contract analysis, vendor negotiation, and risk management.
