Position Overview

The Financial Planning Associate plays an important role in supporting the delivery of comprehensive, goals-based financial planning to firm clients. This role partners closely with Advisors and senior planning team members to help develop, implement, and monitor financial strategies that support clients’ long-term financial goals.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, technically curious, client-focused, and motivated to continue developing planning expertise within a collaborative team environment.

Our San Francisco team works largely with clients in their 30s through 50s, many of whom work in the tech sector and receive equity compensation. Our core value proposition involves broad-based wealth management service and advice, including tax planning, investment management, charitable goals mapping, cash-flow support, and concentrated-position management — all aimed at helping clients plot a course to and into financial independence.

Key Responsibilities

Client Advisory & Financial Planning

  • Assist in the preparation and delivery of comprehensive financial plans, including cash flow, retirement, insurance, education, and basic tax and estate planning considerations
  • Support Advisors and Senior Financial Planners in servicing client relationships and preparing planning recommendations
  • Help translate planning concepts and recommendations into clear and actionable client communications
  • Participate in ongoing client reviews and assist with updating financial plans based on client needs and changing circumstances

Collaboration & Relationship Management

  • Work collaboratively with Advisors, Portfolio Managers, and planning team members to support integrated client service
  • Participate in client meetings and follow-up activities as appropriate
  • Assist with gathering and organizing client financial data and documentation
  • Support client retention efforts through responsive service and high-quality planning support

Technical Analysis & Planning Support

  • Conduct financial analyses and prepare planning scenarios using firm-approved planning software
  • Assist with retirement projections, cash flow modeling, insurance analysis, and other planning-related projects
  • Develop knowledge of tax-efficient planning concepts, investment principles, and estate planning fundamentals
  • Stay current on financial planning trends, regulatory updates, and industry best practices

Professional Development

  • Continue progress toward advanced technical knowledge and professional growth within the financial planning profession
  • Seek mentorship and training opportunities from senior team members
  • Contribute to process improvements, planning workflows, and team initiatives

Compliance & Documentation

  • Maintain accurate and organized client records within planning and CRM systems
  • Ensure work is completed in accordance with firm policies, compliance requirements, and fiduciary standards
  • Prepare documentation and meeting notes in a timely and thorough manner

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Financial Planning, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field preferred
  • 1–3 years of experience in financial planning, wealth management, banking, or a related financial services role
  • CFP® certification preferred or active progress toward obtaining CFP® designation
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with financial planning software such as eMoney or MoneyGuidePro
  • Familiarity with basic retirement, tax, and investment planning concepts
  • Prior client service or client-facing experience
  • Desire to build a long-term career in wealth management and financial planning
