Position Overview
The Senior Financial Planner plays a key role in delivering comprehensive, goals-based financial planning to firm clients. This role partners closely with firm Advisors, and client’s allied financial professionals to design, implement, and monitor sophisticated financial strategies that support long-term wealth accumulation, preservation, and transfer.
The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise with strong client-facing skills and acts as a trusted advisor, mentor, and planning leader within the firm.

Our San Francisco team works largely with clients in their 30s through 50s, many of whom work in the tech sector and receive equity compensation. Our core value proposition involves broad-based wealth management service and advice, including tax planning, investment management, charitable goals mapping, cash-flow support, and concentrated-position management — all aimed at helping clients plot a course to and into financial independence.
Key Responsibilities
Client Advisory & Financial Planning
- Lead the development and delivery of comprehensive financial plans, including cash flow, retirement, tax, estate, insurance, education, and philanthropic planning
- Serve as the primary financial planning expert for complex client relationships
- Translate technical strategies into clear, actionable recommendations for clients
- Conduct ongoing plan reviews and proactively adjust strategies based on life events, market conditions, and regulatory changes
Collaboration & Relationship Management
- Partner with Advisors, Portfolio Managers, and external professionals (CPAs, attorneys, trustees) to deliver integrated solutions
- Participate in client meetings and presentations as a senior subject matter expert
- Support client acquisition and retention through high-quality planning insights
Technical Expertise & Strategy
- Analyze complex compensation structures, business ownership, stock options, and concentrated positions
- Provide advanced tax-efficient planning strategies in coordination with tax professionals
- Stay current on regulatory changes, financial planning best practices, and industry trends
Leadership & Mentorship
- Mentor and provide guidance to Advisors, Financial Planners, and Financial Planning Associates in order to support their professional development
- Review financial plans prepared by junior team members for accuracy and quality
- Contribute to the development of planning standards, processes, and tools
Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure all financial plans and recommendations meet regulatory, compliance, and fiduciary standards
- Maintain accurate and thorough client documentation within planning and CRM systems
Required Qualifications
- CFP® designation required (or equivalent such as CFA®, CPA, or ChFC®)
- 4+ years of experience in financial planning within wealth management or advisory firms
- Proven experience working with complex client relationships
- Strong knowledge of investment principles, tax planning, retirement planning, and estate strategies
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with financial planning software (e.g., eMoney, MoneyGuidePro)
- Familiarity with trust, estate, and advanced wealth transfer strategies
- Prior experience mentoring or training junior planners
- Potential desire to serve as the succession plan for existing practices
